The call to 日本 (Japan)

The call to 日本 (Japan)

If you know Danielle or me even a little, you've probably heard us talk about Japan. Well, the season is quickly approaching! Our Seattle apartment is a testament to that! As of last week, we've officially started packing boxes to be shipped to our new home: Osaka, Japan. Why Japan? That answer has been brewing for a number of years, starting back in the early 2000s. Ever since I encountered the Holy Spirit I have always felt a call to Asia. The thought never felt foreign or forced, but instead, entirely natural. It was as if this call was implanted within my core at the moment of my first "yes" to the Lord. The right to bear faith: Our self-defense

The right to bear faith: Our self-defense

Just days ago, Danielle and I returned home to find thousands marching down the streets of Seattle in response to recent mass shootings Turn on the T.V., check the news, read online forums or social media: you'll find no shortage of debate on gun control, vastly opposed opinions, pushes for legislation, adamant defense of rights and beliefs, and of course, the tragic stories of the victims of these horrendous acts which we all wish to prevent. I’ve got 95 theses but an indulgence aint one

Today is the 500th anniversary of Martin Luther's 95 theses Most have, at a minimum, heard his name. If you don't know anything else about him and why he matters, here are some quick notes to bring you up to speed... It's actually pretty interesting! Martin Luther was a German monk and professor of theology who questioned the theology and leadership of the Catholic Church in 1517. He is widely regarded as the guy who kicked off the protestant reformation. The protestant reformation was a split from the Catholic Church. There are now many protestant denominations. Some of the larger "branches" are Adventist, Anglican, Baptist, Calvinist (Reformed), Lutheran, Methodist, and Pentecostal. Luther wrote a profound list of statements, sent a copy to the Pope and supposedly nailed it to a church door. This is his 95 Theses. The 95 theses was meant to start conversation on the listed topics. Not split the church. The original name of this document was the "Disputation on the Power and Efficacy of Indulgences." Or...
