Our first month in Japan

Our first month in Japan

Well, that went by quick! I've almost been in Japan for an entire month. I'm happy to say that so far, things are going really well. Danielle arrived 10 days ago, and we've been having fun exploring our new home everyday since. I'm home! My first meal, ramen! Mission complete. Good news! We found a place to live! Danielle, Ruke (our cat who joined us in Japan), and I move in to our new home in one week! We came into this situation knowing we would need a miracle, and we got one. The deck was stacked against us: foreign students with a cat. We were told before-hand that being a foreigner alone cuts down possible rentals to a mere 5%. A season’s end

A season’s end

Our pile of boxes grew quickly and then disappeared all at once. Just this morning a crew from Yamato shipping came and took away all of our things, minus a few bags of clothes and other essentials. All packed, ready to be sent to Japan And then it was all gone! It's a bit surreal to have the majority of our possessions officially en route to a foreign country for which we do not even have our visas yet! Boxes weren't the only thing to have left recently. This past week we had the whole gang here! A big "thanks" to all the friends and family who came out to celebrate Danielle's graduation from The University of Washington with us (Danielle will share more on that later!). We had a ton of fun with everyone and felt extremely loved by your support. Boating on South Lake Union in Seattle And finally, we bid farewell to one of our cats just yesterday. With the restrictions we're facing...

The call to 日本 (Japan)

The call to 日本 (Japan)

As of last week, we've officially started packing boxes to be shipped to our new home: Osaka, Japan. Why Japan? That answer has been brewing for a number of years, starting back in the early 2000s. Ever since I encountered the Holy Spirit I have always felt a call to Asia. The thought never felt foreign or forced, but instead, entirely natural. It was as if this call was implanted within my core at the moment of my first "yes" to the Lord. Perhaps due to my relatively minimal exposure to missions, or simple naivety in my young age, I had always operated out of an assumption that my call to Asia was a call to China. I had heard of the underground churches in China and was inspired by...
